Martial art has become a trend in Calcutta. It has been in Calcutta for a long time, however these days people are more keen to learn Karate or Kungfu rather than playing football or doing freehand exercise. Thanks to our Bolyowood Action impact and Tollywood imitation of action scenes from Bollywood movies.Let’s take a look at Trishanjit, 3 years old, or Sana Ganguly, 6 years old – they just love some kicks! Trishanjit is the proud son of Tollywood Samrat of present age – Prasenjit while Sana Ganguly is the proud daughter of our cricket Dada Sourav Ganguly.
Both Sana and Trishanjit go to -All India Seishinkai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Federation. As we all normally follow what the celebrities are doing, I am trying to compile a list of Karate Associations in Calcutta where you can go and learn Karate or Kung Fu and so on.
If you go yo a Katate/Martial Art School in Kolkata (Calcutta) please reply and we will add the name of your association in our list.

I need to know ….wat is da best karate institute in kolkata….
If you want to learn martial arts to kick someone’s ass, try any hard-hitting bone-crunching martial art like….(fill in the blanks with whatever you want).
At the end, however, you won’t learn any for you didn’t learn to control your ego and your violence. And you get your ass kicked pretty bad. If not now, then 20 years on, when your muscles begin to sag, and when your bones are not that strong that once they used to be, you meet someone strong on the street who doesn’t care about your black belt/sash/ whatever, nor your fancy style of Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Brazilian, Israeli, Balinese, Filipino, Plutonian… (again, fill in the blanks).
No martial art is superior. No martial art is inferior (except for the dirty ones that are out to fool you for your money- you can identify them from their tall claims and especially when they tell you they are the one and only, the best).
Learning martial arts is like learning music. Whether you play the flute, the violin, or the electric guitar, what you intend is to make music. Forget the music, and all you’ve is noise!
That’s my important point.
Now think what kind of music you would like to learn, and why. Better to learn one musical instrument seriously, than to half-heartedly play many. The same goes for martial arts. Anyone seriously practising one martial art in Kolkata is better than the idiot who goes to gyms and fancy workouts every day and pump up muscles for fashion- muscles that won’t come in use at any time.
Anyway, for my part, before leaving Kolkata three years back, I used to practise traditional Kobayashi Aikido for some time at Calcutta Judo Club at Park Street. My sensei was a soft-spoken man who is a 3rd dan in Aikido and a 5th dan in Shotokan Karate. I know he still teaches there on Wednesday and Saturday evenings regularly, without missing a single class. And I still look back to those times with wonder and pride. While practising there, I saw many Kolkata people seriously practising Judo, Taekwondo and Karate at different times. Serious and silent people, many of them older than you can think.
And everyone practised their own music, without much noise.

Think u r living in a year 50 years ago. Is there any certified teacher? Now a days we can find certified teachers. This is a business man. Certificate is not martial art. It is only a paper. Forget about the certificate. Believe in your master’s words. This is the only way to learn. Regarding Wing-Chun there are a lot of persons who know Wing-chun. You may know only one name- that is Yip Man System. But there are a lot of Wing-Chun systems e.g. Red Boat, Tibetan Wing-Chun, Shaolin Wing-Chun, Weng-Chung, Buddhist Wing-Chun(Vietnam) and a long list. You can find a few names in internet, but that doesn’t mean that there are no existance of the other Wing-Chun System. Hope I can clear you doubt.Thanks.
