Ajay Chakrabarty is a famous name in Classical and Light Classical music. His contribution towars light classical bengali songs are highly respectable. He released this Rabindra Sangeet Album after Biswabharati lost the Copyright of Rabindra Sangeet. Many thinks Rabindra Sangeet by Ajay Chakrabarty is great. However we think the Rabindra Sangeets he sung are not really great. He added is own speciality such as detailed “Sargam” in the songs which does not go with the overall theme of any Rabindra Sangeet. However, we would let you judge the album yourself. Khub-i sundor bhabe gawa hoyeche ei gaangulo!! In my opinion as long as they are not distorted (like in some so called modern “remixed” renditions in some recent bengali movies etc. which I think are bad taste) any change for the good is always welcome. Biswabharati has been too dogmatic, autrocratic and over-possesive about Rabindrasangeet, everything which Gurudev did not stand for! However, I also do not agree with the comment that most earlier sung Rabindrasangeet are monotonous. Artists like Hemanta, Sagar Sen, Chinmoy, Suchitra Mitra, Kanika, Pankaj Mullick … are also fantastic. Each one of them have their special ways of singing and their masterly numbers.
In my opinion anything in any form of Art that is in bad taste will automatically be rejected by people and forgotten in the long run and extra policing is not required. Let the listeners choose.
I would like to know why my comment was removed? It was indeed COWARDLY to do so without letting me know, it had no bad or abusive language and had rational conclusions, unless of course you think that Rabindrasangeet is the PROPERTY of a bunch of (pseudo)-intellectual bengalis. If you invited comments you should have the courage to put them up, unless they were vulgar!! I would expect a response.
