Old bengali Songs-1930-1940
In 1930 – 1940 period Bengali cinema was moving from the silent era to “Bangla Talkies“. However, the concept of “Playback” singers lending their voice in films were not very usual. Many actors and actresses of that period were both Singers and Actors such as Pahadi Sanyal, Asitbaran, Kanan Devi. Later with the growth of playback singing, some of the people left their dual charecter and choose one. Such as pahadi Sanyal and Asitbaran. However, Pahari Sanyal never lost his musical talents and sung again in a Satyajit Film “Aranyer Din Ratri“. Many movies were being made from famous plays at “Classic Theater” and “New Theater” in Calcutta. Most of the movis of that period was based on religion stories and the songs were of Devotional in its kind.
