Patriotic Bengali Songs were specially written during the freedom movement of greater India under British dominance. Sometimes they are especially written in honor of some of the freedom fighters during the independence period such as “Ek Bar Biday De Ma Ghure Asi to honor Khundiram (Later incorporated in movie Khundiram – sung by Lata Mangeshkar), sometimes a challenge – “Karar Oi Lauho Kopat, Bhenge De Kor Re Lopat, Rokto Joba Sikol Pujar Pashan Bedi (by Kazi Nazrul), sometimes painful – “Amar Bhayer Rokte Rangano“, sometimes with immortal glamor ” Dhono Dhannye Puspe Bhora, Amader Ei Basundhara“.
But the songs of patriotic nature did not stop after achieving the independence. “Ami Banglai Gaan Gan, Ami Banglar Gaan Gai” is a bright example of recent patriotic song that gives you entuthiasism and help you share and feel the love for the land and language. They are immortal songs with a tribute to Mother Land. Some of the songs are also incorporated in adunik bengali music. Such as ” Ami Tak Dum Tak Dum Tak Dum Bajai” by Sachin Dev Barman. “Moder Gorob Moder Asha, Amader-ei Bangla Bhasa” – directly praise the golden language we speak – Bengali. Yes, I am a bengali too. A proud one for sure.
One of the famous patriotic song-writer was Dwijendralal Roy. He was a Bengali poet, song writer and composer. He wrote more than 500 songs of such uniqueness that we call his songs “Dwijendra Giti” just we define songs by Rabindranath Tagore as “Rabindra Giti or Rabindra-sangeet”. “Dhanadhanne Puspe Bhora” and “Bongo Amar, Janani Amar” “Amar Bharat (patriotic)” :Je Din Sunil Jaladhi Haite (patriotic)” “Patitadwarini Gangey (patriotic)” were two of his masterpieces. His contemporary Kazi Nazul Islam was another person worth mentioning. Kazi Nazrul was another superb poet. He was the pioneer of modern Bengali music. Rabindranath Tagore however, never considered as a poet for freedom-fighters, Rabindranath also wrote numerous Patriotic songs. One of which is the national anthem of our nation “Jana Gana Mana Adi Nayak Jaya He“.

- Amara bhayer rokte rangano. (February 21st day commemorates the lives sacrificed to make Bengali one of the national languages when Bangladesh was part of Pakistan. The West Pakistani regime tried to force Urdu as the national language, a fact that was strongly contested by Bengalis. On that fateful day a procession by Bengalis was shot at by police resulting in the death of 4 martyrs. The nascent Bengali nationalism ultimately gave birth to the free nation of Bangladesh.On November 17, 1999 the UNESCO declared the 21st February as the International Mother Language Day.)
