Geeta Dutta

Geeta Dutt – The Legendary Singer

The first thing come to my mind while thinking about Geeta Dutta is the Bengali Song “Nishi Raat Banka Chand Akashe“. She was the ONLY singer who was known to be feared by Lata Mangeshkar. Her contribution to Bengali Modern and Film songs is trendous – “Bansi Bujhi Sei Sure aar gaibe Na”, “Timi Bina E Phagun” – long list of unforgattable bengali songs are there. Lets read a little about the talented singer while listening to her songs in our Online Calcutta radio.

Geet? Dutt (or Dutta) was a talented playback singer in Hindi movies in the 1950s and 60s, and also a singer of modern Bengali songs. She was born in Faridpur distric, East Begal in 1930. She was from a very rich Jamindar familily and her surname was “Ghosh Roy Chowdhury” before marriage. Her parents moved to Bollywood (read Mumbai) when she was only 12.
